Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about therapy at WPT

What are your fees?
Whole Parent Therapy's fees are set based on standard rates for doctoral level clinicians. Our rates vary depending on the specific services you are requesting. Fees for our providers range from $175 - $250. We are happy to provide you with a referral to a lower fee mental health center, if needed. Group sessions generally cost $100 per session.

What should I expect from therapy?
You will complete a brief 15-minute screening call with a provider from Whole Parent Therapy, offered at no cost to you. Next, you'll have an intake, which will last between 75-90 minutes, and will include your individualized treatment plan. Then, each session thereafter will typically range from 45 – 50 minutes, followed by a graduation session. Graduation will feature a review of skills, answers to any lingering questions, and a plan for potential future challenges.

When is payment due?
Parents are responsible for payment at the time of service. Credit, debit, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), and Healthcare Savings Accounts (HSAs) are accepted forms of payments online through our patient portal. Whole Parent Therapy is not currently affiliated with any health insurance plans. If you are having trouble making payments or expect to have difficulty with payments, please discuss this with us as soon as possible.

Can I have a good faith estimate?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers must provide patients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical services. At Whole Parent Therapy, a good faith estimate will be provided to you as part of your treatment plan during your intake appointment. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 310-453-8788.

Do you accept insurance?
Whole Parent Therapy is not currently affiliated with any insurance plans and is considered an out-of-network provider. Please check with your insurance provider to inquire about possible out-of-network benefits and rates for reimbursement. Upon request, Whole Parent Therapy can provide documentation of services rendered and payments received for you to submit for reimbursement, based on your insurance’s out-of-network coverage options.

What happens if I need to cancel?
Life happens; we get it! If a situation arises and you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours before the time of the scheduled session, if not sooner. Unless otherwise discussed, you will be charged $75 for a cancellation that occurs within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment. You will be charged the full cost of the session if you do not show up to your appointment and do not call. Sessions that are canceled more than 24 hours before their scheduled appointment will not be charged a cancellation fee.

Which therapy groups are currently being offered?
ADHD Parenting Group: This group is ideal for parents of children ages 6 - 14, who would like to work on reducing conflict, increasing your child's compliance with your requests, and improving your child's ability to complete routines independently.

Poop Parenting Group: This group is ideal for parents of children (ages 3 - 7), who would like to work on increasing your child's independence with toileting, improving your child's toileting habits, and reducing accidents.

Parenting Support Group -- Parenting Children in Crisis: This group is ideal for parents whose children (ages 11 - 17) are struggling with suicidal ideation (SI) and who would like support with managing worries, improving communication, setting limits, and reducing conflict. Please note this group is not a treatment group for parents who are struggling with suicidal ideation themselves.

Is group therapy or individual therapy right for me?
Group therapy offers parents an opportunity to receive support and learn skills, while also sharing in the solidarity and perspective of other parents in similar situations. Individual therapy also offers parents an opportunity to learn skills but with the focused support of a psychologist one-on-one. Both types of therapy are effective and can be beneficial. The main things to consider are your particular situation, comfort, and cost.

In general, situations that are more complex and which may require greater expertise are a better fit for individual therapy. Additionally, if you generally don't feel comfortable speaking in front of others or meeting new people, group therapy may not be the best fit. Finally, while group therapy is generally the more cost effective option, it may be worth the investment to have one-on-one treatment in more complex situations. When in doubt, give us a call, and we can help you decide.
